HP Recommended
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New HP desktop computer.  Old HP 2509m monitor.  Worked well with old HP computer.  Picture on monitor from new computer is too large to fit using HDMI.  Will work with VGA cable but picture is not as good.  Can not find method to adjust picture to accommodate HDMI.

This seems to be a known problem, not just for HP.   You need to reset the monitor as described here   Checkout the user guide.
