current internal/laptop optical drives come in two sizes 9.5mm and 12.7mm and can be normal sata connector or what's called a "mini" sata connector look at the back of your drive and note if it looks like a normal sata or if the connector is smaller which means it's mini sata
all currently made dvd burners are dual layer

if you have a existing optical drive you can run the Nero info tool which will provide the installed optical drive's model number and it's supported formats for R/W
