Hi
I have a and HP Pavilion HPE h8-1256s Desktop, running Win 10 Version 21H2. While looking for a sound driver to restore Beats Audio I found that there were 2 BIOS updates I missed under the Windows 8 system, since I went straight from Win 7 to Win 10 .
Is it safe to install the latest updated BIOS now on Win 10 ?
There is a warning saying
"NOTE: Due to security changes, after this BIOS update is installed, previous versions cannot be reinstalled"
Also
Prerequisites:
- You must be logged on as an administrator to install this update.
- You must have a Microsoft Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system
Thanks in advance for any help
Leo

Hi, Leo:
If you want to take the risk of updating the BIOS in W10, then you may want to run the update in W8 compatibility mode.
To do that, right click on the BIOS exe file, select Properties>click on the compatibility tab and then check the box to Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.

Hi:
I don't recommend installing a BIOS update that was written to be run on a different operating system.
It might work fine, or it might make your PC irreparable.
I suggest that you try the W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model PC and see if that gets the sound to work again.
Restart the PC after installing the driver.

Hi Paul
Sorry for the confusion. The Beats Audio works fine.
I was hoping to get better BIOS security for my system, since at this time I don't have TPM, or other hardware security.
that's why I was looking to do the BIOS update.
In the new BIOS description it states:
Improved security of UEFI code and variables. HP strongly recommends promptly transitioning to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.
Thanks

Although it might work, as I stated here
Solved: Re: BIOS update not available from HP - HP Support Community - 8231573
although it announces a security reinforcement, I doubt that this will change for the tpm
You are switching from a 7.xx bios to an 8.xx
this can be an advantage, for a graphics card replacement, maybe
but take into account the risk, if it goes wrong, the computer is HS, and you will certainly not be able to go back, at least easily!
But if it passes it's relatively useful if you change graphics card I think

I have already seen many users do this, as I mentioned
but with anyone having problems, after an update, even with the correct version, best avoided, if not necessary
Do it the day you think you want to replace it!
less regret, if it crashes, maybe!
