Hi... I am a computer technician working professionally on a computer and need to put an SSD into it... I have tried many things like a BIOS update and trying different drives etc but every time I insert any SSD into the PC it freezes up and I can't even get to the boot menu... It literally becomes stagnant and frozen... If I put an old HDD or USB in it works just fine and boots... This seems to be an issue that many have encountered and this is only a five year old PC so it should be compatible with most every SATA SSD out there... Is there anyway I can make this work? I don't want to look like a fool to my customer and I also would like to complete the task he has given me... It isn't a bad computer so I expect more from HP...

Hello @robotpreston
Your computer has the motherboard called Willow2 ( codename )
This could be interesting for you:
HP Community Topic: Willow2 motherboard ssd M.2 compatibility
The specification is telling me that the desktop original came with a drive: ( well what can I say ... nothing special )
- 1 TB
- Size: 1 TB
- Interface: SATA
- Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM
(1) Do you use BIOS F.45 Rev.A ?
I checked the bios history here: No additional information found about drive support
(2) What SATA drive is causing problems ? Drive specification, please.
(3) Bios Settings, please.
I do not have the service manual, but I think it's not updated ...

Hello @robotpreston
To help you I need to know the product number (p/n) of your computer !
You will find this information on the back or side of your computer printed in small alphanumeric letters.
The product number (p/n) is legally allowed information, just about the computer, no sensitive data.

@ub6424 has given you some good info, but some more info from you is needed.
While not clear but are you trying to install a M.2 SSD or a SATA SSD?
Also, if a M.2 slot SSD, what make and model SSD? And, if M.2, which slot are being attempted?

Turns out I went to the store and bought a WD M.2 drive and put it in after I saw on one of the forums you posted that they have a tough time with Crucial and SAMSUNG SSDs... It worked and I was relieved... Hopefully they'll release an update that fixes this in the future... I plan to return the original SSD... I appreciate your help very much 🙂

Yes, as you found out, HP's do have problems with Samsung SSD's or some others.
Glad it is working now.
