Hi @cameranotfound8,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To fix the "We can't find your camera" error on your HP laptop, first ensure the physical privacy shutter is open or the electronic kill switch is off. Next, check Windows permissions in Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

Physical Switches and Privacy Shutters:

Many HP laptops (like some models of the HP Spectre, Envy, and Pavilion) include a physical privacy shutter switch on the side or an e-shutter key (often F10 or F11) with a camera icon. Slide the physical switch or press the key to ensure the camera lens is physically uncovered and unblocked.

Check Device Manager and Reinstall Drivers:

If the camera remains hidden, it might be disabled or have a corrupted driver.

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.

  2. Click View in the top menu and select Show hidden devices.

  3. Expand Cameras or Imaging devices.

  4. Right-click your HP webcam (e.g., HP Wide Vision) and select Uninstall device. Check the box to attempt removing the driver software, if prompted.

  5. Click Action at the top and select Scan for hardware changes to let Windows reinstall the driver.

  6. Restart your laptop.

Verify Windows App Permissions:

Your camera may be completely blocked by Windows system privacy settings.

  1. Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.

  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security (or Privacy) and click Camera.

  3. Ensure Camera access is toggled to On.

  4. Scroll down to verify that Let apps access your camera and Let desktop apps access your camera are both turned On.
