HP Pavilion 590-p0024
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to add a 1tb solid state drive to my pavilion 590-p0024. What options would be best?!? I have searched YouTube etc..  Watched the videos for various pavilion models (non for this specific model) looked up the mother board on the product spec page..  but there doesn’t appear to be a mounting point on the drives cage. Do I need a separate mount for this?? Is there a specific ssd I need?? Do I use an M.2 or SATA?? I’m so confused ..  I have not opened up my computer to look..  Plan on that tomorrow after work.

@AJY0801 , welcome to the forum.

There is a M.2 socket 3, key M socket on your motherboard.  You will be able to use a M.2, NVMe SSD.  Here is a very good guide to help you understand the M.2, Keys and Sockets: https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3

Also, here is the Motherboard Specifications page for the computer:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-590-p0000a/19390500/document/c05939208

Look at the Motherboard diagram on the right facing side, in the middle, to see where the M.2 socket is located.

Here is the Upgrading and Servicing Guide for the computer: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05934592

On Pages 18 thru 20 are instructions for replacing and adding a M.2, SSD.

Here is a HP Knowledge Base article to help you with the transition from your HDD to the SSD:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Upgrading-Desktop-or-Laptop-to-a-SSD/ta-p/73048...

@AJY0801, You are very welcome.  I like Samsung SSD's (M.2 and Standard) because they seem to work best with HP's BIOS/UEFI.  Also, they have their Data Migration software (Cloning software) that works extremely well.  Once you have the SSD installed, you can use their Magician software to tweak your SSD for best performance and monitor the health of it.

@AJY0801, you are welcome again!! 😉  Once you use a SSD as your boot drive you will never go back.  It speeds up performance beyond belief.

Well this is what I went with

Pioneer 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Gen 3x4 Internal Solid State Drive SSD Series (APS-SE20Q-1T) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T47TP23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ik4aFb7H1T0HX

mainly due to budget constraints..  I have a financial advisor(wife). lol..  in the near future I’m going to max the ram to 32gb and upgrade the cpu to the Ryzen 5 2600.,  so..  should be a better gaming experience..  I’m not a huge gamer buy ya know..  thanks for the help..  kept from having to open the case and dig around in there before I needed to

@AJY0801, it should work for you!  There are many different versions of cloning software that will work for you.  I understand the financial advisor statement very well!!  😉  I have one just like her.
