I'm sorry, I didn't word the problem correctly. What I meant was the end that requires a screw down doesn't have anything for a screw to fasten to. Would the board be okay if it is just inserted into its slot but not screwed down on the other end?

A: Hey, no problem!  This would not be a good idea.  What is the brand and model of the card?  Is it damaged or just came that way?  This would be highly irregular.

I didn't buy the card yet. I checked the motherboard and I don't see anything the screw would tie into. Does the screw just act as a prop to stabilize the SSD without actually attaching to the board?

Thank you for your help - As you suggested I purchased the Samsung NMe EVO 2 1TB and installed it. What a pleasure to click on a program and it opens right away. My email pgm used to take almost a minute to come up and now it opens in two seconds.

However, there is one little issue I am having with the BIOS. It doesn't recognize the new drive as the boot drive so I have to hit the ESC or F9 key to select the new drive on every startup. There is no option to do a save after making the boot selection.

Any thoughts on this?

You are welcome, @LightvsDarkness!

Try disconnecting any other drive/s that you have in the computer to see if that helps.  If their are two drives with an OS this can confuse things.  Once you have the M.2 selected as the boot drive you can reconnect the other drive/s.

I rebooted with the old drive disconnected and came up fine. I.shut down and reconnected the old drive and it booted from the old drive??? So I disconnected the old drive, rebooted and went into BIOS and although the SSD was the only drive there I selected it and after the system came up I shut down and reconnected the old drive and now the system boots from the SSD.

So, thanks again.

Now I'll start cleanup of the old drive to use it as storage, but is there any concern that there is an OS on there? Can it be removed?

A: No, once you have the SSD set as the boot drive there should be no conflict.  You can delete the OS from the HDD if you are concerned.  Don't format it.  This will wipe out your personal data.

In the future, it would be better is you start your own thread.  You will get more responses to your problem.
