In my experience as a Gamer, it is indeed helpful to assist M.2 NVMe SSD's to release heat using a copper heatsink.

 

For most of my rigs, I use something like this: Amazon.com: Awxlumv M.2 Heatsink Pure Copper Nvme ssd Heat Sink 7 Fins with Thermal Silicone pad for..., and for tighter places where there isn't much space to add a heatsink, I use something like this: M.2 2280 PCI-E NVME SSD Copper Heatsink w/Thermal Conductive Adhesive 2mm Height | eBay.
