Hello I have an 89EB motherboard with a Ryzen 5 5600g and I want to upgrade it due to bottleneck.

I wanted to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X or 5800X3D is it possible considering the mb tdp is only 65w, I saw online people could upgrade but I don't want to spend that money for nothing and should I flash the bios (I already did it with the bios on the HP support for my mb)

Hi:

Below is the link to the motherboard specs for your PC's 89EB motherboard SSID which has the list of supported processors:

HP Desktop PCs - HanaL motherboard specifications | HP® Support

I don't see after reading all of the BIOS release notes for the BIOS update that any of them added support for additional processors, but that doesn't necessarily mean that other processors won't work.

@Paul_Tikkanen@Rukea,

Yes, the Ryzen 7 5700X, Ryzen 7 5800X and the Ryzen 9 5900X are indeed compatible with your PC.

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D may be compatible but found no definitive online confirmation.  You could try it, the worst that would happen are some angry beeps and a blue (or black) screen.  Return to Seller to get your money back, in that case.

The best confirmed processor you could install in your PC would be the Ryzen 9 5900X (12-Cores, 24-Threads, 3.70 GHz up to 4.80 GHz).

According to this table, perhaps even the Ryzen 9 5950X is compatible, who knows.

Kind Regards,
