OMEN 25L Desktop PC GT12-0000i (7WM05AV)

I would like to know if I can upgrade my current GPU Nvidia GTX 1660 Super with a AMD RX6650 XT on my Omen 25L Gaming desktop. The minimum PSU Watts for the RX6650 XT is 500 watts. I believe this system meets the minimum requirements. I'm more concerned about the size limitations. Below are the dimensions for the GPU.

Height - 40.89 mm

Width - 131.06 mm

Length - 241.05 mm

Thanks, Shawn

@ShawnZ1,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

The RX 6650 XT dimensions (Height: 131 mm, Width: 41 mm, Length: 241 mm) are very close to a Nvidia GTX 1660 Super: Height: 111 mm, Width: 35 mm, Length: 229 mm.

It is the length of the card (an additional 12 mm or 1.2 cm) you should carefully measure if that would fit in your case.  I would imagine it shouldn't be a problem.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply. My concern is more about the width. I noticed that there seems to be some sort of bracket attached to the Motherboard holding the 1660 card in place. I suspect the width of the new card will exceed that bracket width meaning either it's not going to work at all or I would need to somehow remove the bracket all together. I'm not sure if that bracket is snapped in or if it's glued to the mother board.

Thanks, ShawnIMG_5064.jpg

@ShawnZ1,

Yes, I understand, we're talking about the same thing:

[EDIT:] The part you are pointing out is a "GFX Holder" aka video retainer bracket for a short(er) video card.  You should be able to remove it without busting it -I never heard (yet!) of a retention bracket glued to a motherboard. FYI: There is a retention bracket designed for large(r) graphics cards, which has p/n: L97225-001, as seen here: L97225-001 - Short GFX Pcie Holder | eBay.

If all fails, ascertain if something like this will work to stabilize a larger card for you: https://www.amazon.com/Graphics-Card-GPU-Support-Bracket/dp/B0BZ87YT7S.

This issue has come up a number of times, like here: Need help removing a part on the omen 25L (not in the youtub... - HP Support Community - 8549181.

Hope this was helpful.
