Again, thank you for responding, I do appreciate it.
The discussion in the link you sent was about the 6+2 on the L04618-800; I was asking about the 6+2 on my 310w model but the answer should be the same - Yes. The 6+2 is indeed power that can be used when I upgrade my GPU.
...but additionally...
I was asking about the 7pin going to P2. My 310w has only 3 wires from the PSU to the 7pin. The L04618-800 has 6 wires. It feels that this would be compatibility problem. Is that correct?
And what did you think of the pics you asked for? I'm happy to provide more especially since pics of the Baker board are pretty much unavailable atm.

So still no response about the 7-pin.
I have yet to hear/read from anyone that has actually installed the L05757-800 on their Baker board. It would be nice to see an actual confirmation that it is directly compatible and the 7-pin isn't an issue or needs an adapter.
Thx

There are lots of posts here on TP01 PCs. vast sub-models made.
not many folks do this , 0.01"% in the wild world do, it is not a gaming box. but some do and I have done many but not TPO1. (sell it and get a OMEN?) IDK what is best but buy A PC that CAN be upgraded easy even with ATX real PSU !!!!!
that is why facts are hard to find, RARITY of others doing it and no spec from HP supporting it.
3 levels of rare here, 1:HP rare , 2:users rare and 3:vast models if TPO1 making that even more huge rear. That !
what I'd do is not have a TP01. but if I found one for $10 in garage sale, I'd reverse engineer the 7 pin, as I have done others.
The cure is simply buy the PSU that can be returned to the seller. for 1137c. ( $120?) id not want to eat that price.
Buy it try it and report it here so others can see it work. the 310w works on some , seen in the unofficial list.
why risk this?
what if 1 person said it works then later found out fan controls failed to the PSU and then overheated later.
and did not post back gee I AM wrong, why take that risk?
NO ATC PSU works here only HP odd duck PSUs and only some. (as stated over and over this form endlessly)
HP has no PSU spec at all , not even naming the pins , yah that secret, and a very bad act that....(invites HUMAN ERROR HUGE)
you are here asking the community, not HP actual
are you asking all here or just HP?????????????????????????????????????
L05757-800
if one pin was named fan controls do you not thank a rational tech would think, gee, I cant leave that missing.
and more, lots more, that odd 12vdc standby pin and more lots more , even thermal sensors or PSU sleep modes, etc.

if missing wires on 7 pin SIP (single in-line plug)
that can not be good, that in my book (mr.hardware) is not a good sign at all.
if not asking HP actual this (there answer is no , I thing)
and asking all users what might work (and they are 1/2 correct in the real world)
the answer is here. (vast mother boards are used here, and some may fail, nobody knows, not really) if you read all posts on this topic you learn that fast. see that?
permalinked.

Erico
in a vacuum what do you expect?.😅> ( this is to HP, not any one else)
HP has no spec. on their ODD DUCK, non ATX spec, PSU not even pins named !
no master cross-reference at all official.
the 4 horrors of P2 shown here, and a totally vacuum from HP.com
on earth! nature abores a vacuum
Aristotle
nothing magic in that, it's Natural.
YMMV , your mod may vary, and does.
we all know HP does not condone mods and hacks that is clear as day but when the warranty ends we own it now.
Yes most hacks done wrong, will cause problems even most. (or all) but HP invites that with ZERO SPEC. on PSU.
A direct swap is the question, not hacks, if persons see hacks then they are on there OWN STEAM.
And never tell others after you failed gee " I READ IT ON THE INTERNET" and hold my beer please....

Again, thx for the response.
I have the basic knowledge but I haven't done this kind of upgrade since the '90s; obviously tech has changed since then. So I came here looking for what I thought was basic information for clarity before diving in but then got locked into this echo chamber of vagueness and non-answers. ['Go look at this chart,' which did not have the info. 'Go read this thread,' which did not have the info.] I'm not saying the answer isn't somewhere on these forums but actually searching for and finding it isn't easy. Yes, I've looked elsewhere but (just like on these forums) searching in such a way, using the right terms etc; it's like the old needle in a haystack. But eventually, using numerous sites, I pieced together the answers.
So, for the sake of the next newb dumb schmuck that makes the mistake of coming to this board looking for the same information that I was in search of ... I will now answer my own questions (or simplify/clarify long winded non-specific answers from others).
Can the PSU be upgraded? - YES -
The L05757-800 (500w) looks to be the best options but there are others that will do the job with the connectors that are needed for the Baker board (the chart provided by Erico does NOT put the L05757 & Baker together). The "proprietary pin" issue is a non-answer; what that really means is you can't just go buy an aftermarket ATX PSU or something, you need a genuine HP product with the correct connections. L05757-800 is a HP product that has the needed pins; it can be found in the HP Parts Store.
But what about the 7-pin?
The 7-pin provides power/control from the MB back to the PSUs fan. The 3 wires vs 6 wires is not an issue; this has been verified on earlier boards similar to Baker (though perhaps not specifically tested on Baker). Are you still taking a 'risk'? Of course, but that's kinda the case in most upgrades like this. Here's one example of a guy that made the upgrade, mentions the 3 vs 6 wires, and had success for the life of the system until he moved on to a new system.

Upgrading the Graphics Card
Yes, this system can take an upgrade but you'll be seriously limited to the 310w PSU and/or the 75w max power coming through the PCIe slot. This is why one needs to go through the PSU upgrade first if you want to upgrade to a better Graphics Card.
So with that, my intent is to install the L05757-800 500w PSU. Once that is in and verified to be working, I'll then move on to finding an appropriate Graphics Card.
I'll make every effort to come back and report how it all goes but it'll probably be a while.
