HP Z8 G4 IDS Base Model Workstation
Microsoft Windows 11

When I installed all 24 full slots of Memory with DDR4-2933-ECC, Hynix 64GB per piece.  4*4R.  Total Memory is 1.5TB.

OS: Windows 11 24H2 with the update.

Graphic Card: Gigabyte RTX 2080Ti (11GB).

The device manager showed that the display adapter is correct, but there is still a yellow mark of this device.

Meanwhile, the display resolution can't be adjusted.

Checked with the updated manual of Z8G4 from the HP website, and it shows that the 24 full slots can be filled with 64GB per slot and be the best.

@asymmsyn,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, an HP Z8 G4 Workstation can indeed be fitted with 24 x 64 GB RAM modules.

As a matter of fact, the HP Z8 G4 Workstation Dual Processor Configuration model can be fitted with up to 24 x 128 GB of Load Reduced Modules (LRDIMM) for an eyewatering total RAM memory of 3.0 TB!

@NonSequitur777,

Yes, This Z8G4 is installed with Dual Processors as Intel Xeon Platinum 8255C @2.5GHz and with a 1700W power supply.

DDR4-2933-ECC 64GB Hynix memory is LRDIMMs.

I changed the graphic card with an HP Quadro P600 with 2GB memory. The yellow mark has still appeared.

Would be possible to make the display adapter work properly? Thank you.

@asymmsyn,

OK, this is what I would do first:

1.) Download the Nvidia Quadro P600 driver from here: https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverresults.aspx/115308/en-us/ (don't install yet).

2.) Download this most useful freeware utility program named "DDU" (Display Driver Uninstaller) from here: https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/, and run it.  This software gets rid of any video driver(s) in your PC in order to start with a clean slate. Here is a YouTube instructional video for using DDU: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzvvXUFKL88&ab_channel=GamerTechToronto.

3.) Install the Nvidia driver and restart your PC.

Report back.

Thank you for your advice.

All the processes have been done as per your description.

It can be displayed as normal using the Microsoft driver.  The display resolution can't be adjusted as previously.

All the Nvidia drivers had been removed clearly. Once the latest driver was installed, the yellow mark appeared.

Would it be possible to have the chance to load the full 24 slots to reach the 1.5TB Memory?

Kind regards,

@asymmsyn,

Let's fix the display resolution issue.

Depending on what monitor you got, download its driver.  For example, I got an Acer Nitro 31.5" WQHD (2560 x 1440) 1500R Curved Widescreen VA Display Monitor XZ322QU V3 on the gaming system I am using right now, and I got the Acer driver from here.

I downloaded the Acer monitor driver and installed it here:

When you do that with your monitor, full resolution/refresh rate options will be restored:

You're asking if it is possible loading the full 24 slots to reach the 1.5 TB RAM Memory, and the answer is clearly: yes, according to HP's specs, you should be able to.

Thank you for your quick response.

The latest driver of the Dell U3223QE Monitor is installed from Dell site. All those drivers are worked well.

The installed Nvidia Control Panel didn't appear even though the process informed that the driver was installed correctly.

Thank you for your kind help and answers. Hope the 24 slots RAM will be workable. The display drivers are worked as usual.

Best regards,

Yesterday, some friends informed me that maybe don't fill all the slots, it works.

It has installed 16 of 24 slots that reached 1TB RAM.

The 16 slots installed are described in the manual as CPUO: Slots 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12; CPU1 has the same slots as CPU0.

The display driver worked properly and the resolution can be adjusted.

Everything works well.

Would be possible for the loading full 24 slots? Please advice. Thank you.

Bes regards,

@asymmsyn,

Look, according to HP's specs as referenced, it should be possible to populate all 24 slots.

Please note though, that it requires specialized "Load Reduced Modules (LRDIMM)" DDR4 RAM modules (or at least that is how I read it) -you may want to look into that.
