Thank you for your quick response.

Hynix DDR4-2933 ECC is as follows. In BIOS it also shows that it is LRDIMMs.

Hynix LRDIMM 64GB DDR4-2933 ECC (1)Hynix LRDIMM 64GB DDR4-2933 ECC (1)Hynix LRDIMM 64GB DDR4-2933 ECC (1)Hynix LRDIMM 64GB DDR4-2933 ECC (1)

Please advise how to install the full 24 slots of RAM. Thank you in advance.

@asymmsyn,

Can you verify that you got the most recent BIOS version installed, 02.94 Rev.A:

Also, make sure your Windows is fully up to date: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-windows-3c5ae7fc-9fb6-9af1-1984-b5e0412c556a.

Processor Requirements:

  • Your HP Z8 G4 workstation must have two Intel Xeon Scalable processors installed since each processor provides access to half of the DIMM slots.
  • Ensure the processors support Registered DIMM (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced DIMM (LRDIMM) configurations, depending on the type of RAM you are using.

Recommended Xeon Scalable Processors:

  1. High Performance:

    • Intel Xeon Platinum 8280
      • Cores: 28
      • Base Clock: 2.7 GHz
      • Max RAM: 4.5 TB (with Optane DCPMM and LRDIMM)
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2933 MHz
    • Intel Xeon Platinum 8276
      • Cores: 28
      • Base Clock: 2.2 GHz
      • Max RAM: 4.5 TB
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2933 MHz
  2. Balanced Performance and Cost:

    • Intel Xeon Gold 6254
      • Cores: 18
      • Base Clock: 3.1 GHz
      • Max RAM: 1 TB (with RDIMM, 2 TB with LRDIMM)
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2933 MHz
    • Intel Xeon Gold 6248R
      • Cores: 24
      • Base Clock: 3.0 GHz
      • Max RAM: 1 TB (with RDIMM, 2 TB with LRDIMM)
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2933 MHz
  3. Cost-Effective Option:

    • Intel Xeon Silver 4216
      • Cores: 16
      • Base Clock: 2.1 GHz
      • Max RAM: 1 TB
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2400 MHz (slightly slower)
    • Intel Xeon Silver 4214
      • Cores: 12
      • Base Clock: 2.2 GHz
      • Max RAM: 1 TB
      • Memory Speed: Up to 2400 MHz

Why Two CPUs Are Necessary:

Each processor supports 12 DIMM slots connected to its memory channels. To utilize all 24 DIMM slots in the HP Z8 G4 Workstation, two processors are required. Without two CPUs, only half the DIMM slots will be active.

The Bios of Z8G4 is 02.94 Rev. A

Update when the computer boots up and is installed in the BIOS which is checked with hp.com for the latest edition and updated.

Windows is updated to Windows 11 Pro for workstation 24H2 to November update.

The processors are installed correctly and are working very well, checked with CPU-Z software. Cores, threads, and others are very well-checked with AIDA64.

Two Processors are the Intel Xeon Platinum 8255C.  Frequency 2.5GHz,  Max Turbo frequency is 3.9GHz.  24 Cores/each, 48 threads/each.

Everything works very well.

Hi, @NonSequitur777

Unfortunately, I don't have any in-depth knowledge of how the HP workstation memory configurations work.

HP Recommended

@Paul_Tikkanen,

Yea, my understanding is that if you got a pair of eligible Xeon processors + Registered DIMM (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced DIMM (LRDIMM) RAM + compatible Workstation, you should be able to install a whopping 24 x 128GB (3TB!) and certainly 24 x 64GB (1.5TB) of RAM.

If the OP isn't able to install all twenty-four 64 GB RAM sticks, something else may be at play here.

@asymmsyn, I am just guessing now, but have you checked your (Advanced) BIOS settings (if there are such settings) to make sure that the dual processor mode and/or that all 24 RAM slots are set on active?

Kind Regards,
