I would like to know if I got a external graphics card dock if it would run on the Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF computer.  Most of these docks run on the m2 slot for laptops so I see this has an m2 slot but that is for storage, and it does have a wifi slot as well, so can someone let me know if there is a way to run an external graphics card for this?

Both M.2 lot for storage and M.2 slot for wifi adapters are slow (the one for wifi is much slower). Their speed are not fist enough for a video card.

@yourmuse,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

You have come to the right place.

The short answer to your question is a resounding YES.

Don't waste your M.2 NVMe SSD slot -even though it would work well using an EXP GDC Graphics Card "Beast" Dock at PCIe x4 speeds:

Rather, use a 24-pin ATX power adapter card to power an external graphics card, such as this one:

You see, the HP EliteDesk 800 G3/G4/G5 SFF were legacy HP desktop upgrade projects of mine.  Here is the link to the G4 upgrade: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF - Page 2 - HP Support Community - 8523990 and the G5: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF - HP Support Community - 8545942.

@yourmuse,

@banhien is correct that when you use the M.2 WLAN slot with the NGFF M.2 A/E Key adapter, your PCIe graphics card speed will slow way down to x1:

This M.2 WLAN graphics card adapter does work as I have shown in my most recent legacy upgrade project: Upgrading an HP EliteDesk 800 65W G3 Desktop Mini (DM) PC - HP Support Community - 8679113, but at reduced GPU performance:
