Can you replace the Intel Core i7-7700 with a i7-8700 so you can run Windows 11?

Hi:

In your PC, you cannot.

The model series only supports a max of the Intel 7th gen core processors.

I recently upgraded my 800 G3 to W11 by using the method I give out to other forum members.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

@JeffHorsham,

As a footnote to @Paul_Tikkanen's timely response, an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF was one of my upgrade projects (Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF - HP Support Community - 8251218), and if you are interested in upgrading your processor, look no further than an i7-7700K.

Incidentally, still holds the #1 spot with UserBenchMark's "HP System EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF": HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

Kind Regards,
