(Question) I have a 3165 NGW Windows 10 laptop HP ENVY Notebook - 15-ae107tx and recently it has only been charging when off. Whenever I put it on charge when it's turned on, I plugged the charger in and it gives some resistance that never happened before and when it's plugged it when it's on, beside the charging port is a light that says if the computer is charging or fully charged (Orange = charging. White = fully charged) When the computer is plugged in and charging, the little light says it's fully charged when it's clearly not. I don't know if the computer thinks it's fully charged like a software issue. Or if it's something to do with the battery, or the charger / charging port. It charges nicely when it's turned off, I don't know why it only does this when it's turned on. Please help if you know what's wrong.

Hi @MrFemaleBoy,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Have you made any changes to the software or hardware?
Have you done any changes to your OS?
As I understand the device only charges when its turned off,
I'd like to thank you for the detailed description of your concern,
as you have ensured I don't have to ask any more questions, that said, I suggest you run a battery calibration using the below steps:
Manually calibrating the battery requires four steps: fully charge the battery, discharge or drain the battery, recharge the battery, then run the battery test. Calibrating the battery improves the accuracy of the battery gauge software so that it more accurately displays the current level of charge. The following instructions work with most battery types.
Step 1: Charge the battery
Use the power cord to charge the battery to a full charge.
Plug in the power cord.
Charge the battery to a full charge, 99% to 100%. To check the battery charge, mouse over the battery icon in the system tray on the Desktop.
When the battery is fully charged, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Discharge the battery
After the battery fully charges, use the extensive Hard Drive test in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to discharge the battery.
Unplug the power cord.
Press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu displays.
Click Component Tests in the main menu.
Let's update the Bios if not done already. Click here
If the issue persists, please Contact HP as this seems to be a hardware malfunction within the charging port,
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
