HP Pavillion Gaming PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently bought a HP Pavillion gaming PC that came with an HP Erica motherboard.  TG01-0023w

I read about this page https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06429270

I do not want to upgrade the computer. I want to downgrade. I want to put the cheapest possible CPU in it and give it away to family.  Due to it being a bad gaming PC (noisy PSU, hot, cramped case when HDD added, proprietary PSU,  no fan control software, etc etc.).  I have already moved the CPU and GPU onto a better board by another maker.

But my question involves support for "AMD Athlon 300UGE, 3.6 GHz Base frequency, 4 MB cache, Dual core (Picasso)"

Is that a type error in the HP document?  because I can't Google any information on a AMD Athlon 300UGE.

There's a AMD Athlon 300G and a Athlon 3000G that I could buy.  But no such thing that I can tell as a 300UGE.  Searches for it refer to HP documents only.

Thanks.

hi

it's curious, I also find no results for this processor
there is a list at AMd, but I haven't read everything:

https://www.amd.com/fr/products/specifications/processors/7746,7696,2571,2586,2601,2611,3376,9221

And yet, we find for example this model:

https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c06456441

Processor Type
AMD Athlon
Processor
AMD Athlon™ 300UGE with Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics (3.4 GHz base clock, 4 MB cache, 2 cores)

but in the Hp reference site we find this:

L65248-001   Il n'est pas possible de commander cette pièce : HP Part Partners peut vous aider. Cliquez ici.
Processor - uP, Athlon 300GE,3.4GHz,35W
RoHS: COMPLY_2.06

https://www.amd.com/fr/products/apu/amd-athlon-300ge#product-specs

3.4GHz 35W cores 2 Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics

it would seem to correspond

Thanks, but I'm still confused because the 300GE is clocked at 3.4ghz and the 3000G is clocked at 3.5ghz.

And the mythical 300UGE is supposed to be clocked at 3.6ghz.

"AMD Athlon 300UGE, 3.6 GHz Base frequency, 4 MB cache, Dual core (Picasso)
65 W
Radeon Vega 3 Graphics"

I suspect like you said that they meant the 300G because other B450 chipsets support the 300G and that's basically what the Erica is, a "prominatory B550-a" which is a a B450 with support for some third gen Ryzens.

But its really confusing and I just would like to reuse the computer rather than throwing it away.

But I also don't want to buy a CPU that won't work with the last BIOS update.

Unfortunately, I can only give you an answer after research, and with the documents at our disposal
I fully understand your confusion, and indeed cannot guarantee that my answer is correct.
The best I can advise you would be to contact HP directly

I tried support but they were unable to help me beyond quoting the same document and wasting my time.

I suppose I should ask, does anyone have an HP Erica motherboard and an AMD Athlon CPU working?

Still looking for clarification from HP

I don't promise you anything @Jay891 ..

I asked if it was possible to get help from an HP expert!
