My computer is no longer showing as a registered device with HP. I believe I am up to date since I have been using the HP Support Assistant. The Hardware and Diagnostic App shows numerous missing drives which I think it is incorrect. I have Version 25H2. I need to get this computer as a registered device again and HP is not allowing me.

Hi @Anse47,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To register your computer manually and clear out phantom missing drives, try bypassing the app altogether by using the manual web registration form and resetting the HP Hardware Diagnostics environment.

Step 1: Manually Register Your Device

If automatic registration is failing, use the official HP portal.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and locate your System SKU (Product Number) and Serial Number.

  2. Go to the official HP Product Registration website.

  3. Log in to your HP account (or create one).

  4. Enter your country/region, select your preferred language, and input your specific product name/number.

Step 2: Resolve Incorrect Hardware & Diagnostic App Errors:

The "missing drives" or errors you are seeing in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app are very common after a Windows feature update (like Version 25H2) and often indicate a cached hardware error or corrupted diagnostic registry.

  1. Reset Diagnostics: Restart your PC, and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup menu opens. Press F10 to enter BIOS, and press F9 to Load Setup Defaults. Press F10 to Save Changes and Exit.

  2. Update BIOS/Drivers: Make sure your BIOS and Chipset drivers are updated directly from the Official HP® Support page.

  3. Run sfc: Search for cmd in the taskbar, right-click and select Run as administrator. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter to repair corrupted Windows system files.

Step 3: Reinstall HP Support Assistant:

If the Support Assistant isn't showing on your PC, the app itself may have become disconnected from your HP account.

  1. Go to your Windows search bar, type Add or remove programs, search for HP Support Assistant, and click Uninstall.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. Download the newest version directly from HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.

  4. Open the freshly installed application and sign in with your HP profile to link the device to your dashboard.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
