As you recommended, I purchased the SL9QQ, for £22, which is approxiametly $34, that was the cheapest I could find in the UK, apparently it comes with some thermal grease as well which is also good.

So I do not need to purchase a new heat sink then.

I was very close to purchasing the SL9QB, but I saw in your forum that the SL9QQ, was the top of the range.

One last question I cant get my head around is, Why is it not possible to install a C2D into the motherboard of the DC7600?

Hi:

Just clean the top of the processor and the bottom of your heatsink with alcohol to get rid of the old thermal paste, and put a nice application of new thermal paste on. You can use coffee filters too for cleaning instead of a lint free cloth, if you have any of those around.

While the 945 chipset supports some C2D processors, HP must have restricted them from the BIOS so you would have to buy the dc7700.

Sorry, but what is meant by a "microde update"?,

Just to make sure, This is what I have to do?

Install latest Bios,

Install Processor with thermal grease

You have to use a bootable usb flash drive.

I am going to make this easy for you...

1. Get a USB Flash drive.

2. Download the 3 zip files I uploaded below.

3. Unzip the files and store them in a folder you can name for this project.

4. Insert a USB flash drive in your PC. Your windows 7 PC will be fine.

5. Run sp27608 and follow the instructions. This will make your USB flash drive bootable.

6.  Now, copy the DOS System files onto the flash drive

7. Copy the Flashbin files onto the flash drive.

8.  Reboot the PC, and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F9 key to get the one time boot menu.

9.  Select the USB flash drive.

10. The PC should boot from the flash drive and bring you to a command prompt.

11. At the command prompt type: Flashbin.exe

12.  Follow the prompts to update the microcode.

When you're done, you can reformat the flash drive if you want.
