Hello Again Community, I have another question for anyone. I want to boost my PC memory to 16gb. My PC already has a 8gb and a 4gb memory modules. Both are Samsung. I wanted to replace the 4gb with an 8gb. I ordered a Samsung 8gb DDR4-2400, which is what the spec sheet calls for. Upon investigation into my PC, I find that the 8gb ram is DDR4-2666. Will I be able to use these two modules together, or will I need to get either another DDR4-2666 or order another DDR4-2400. HELP!!

Hi:
The product specs indicate that your PC came with 12 GB of DDR4-2400 memory.
HP Pavilion 590-p0109 Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
Now it is very possible the HP installed DDR4-2666 MHz memory chips in there because that is what they had on hand at the time.
The DDR4-2400 memory chip should work fine with the DDR4-2666 MHz memory chip because your PC's processor cannot run the memory at the 2666 MHz speed anyway.
I think your PC's processor only runs the memory at 1866 MHz.

Thanks Paul, so glad you saw my post and responded. You explain things so plainly. Thanks again for your help! I think I have ALL the info I need now to get on with getting this PC up and running! Have a good one!! Thanks again!!

Sure did, Paul! And it performs great, for me, anyway. And you were "spot on" about its capabilities. Like I said, I'm not a "high-tech/performance aficionado", just like my PC to perform efficiently. Maybe in the near future, I'll step up to a more high-end PC, but, for now, this one should be sufficient for me and my FIOS service. My PC I'm retiring, is an HP Pavilion a6745f, Special Edition. Got it prebuilt back in 2009. I must say, it still performs well. But, guess I have to keep up with changing technology. It really has pretty good specs for the time it came out. Well, enough about that, as you can tell, I'm kinda attached to it. But, I think I have a good home for it. Thanks again, Paul. Hopefully, you'll be around if I need some "sound" advice again! Take care.

Hey Paul! Got my DDR4-2400 ram stick today. My friend, your comment/advice, was, "SPOT ON", again! Both rams are working fine together. I'm going to send you a screenshot of the CPU-Z results, tomorrow. Maybe you can give me a real I world assessment of the results I'm getting. Thanks again, my friend!!

Hi again Paul, I know it maybe getting a little late, but, did manage to save a couple of screenshots of my CPU-Z . Oddly enough, seems both the DDR4-2400 and DDR4-2666 are operating pretty much the same. No distinction between the two different modules. I hope that's a good outcome. What's your thoughts?

Hi:
Run the utility that I zipped up and attached below, and look at the summary report.
Here is a screenshot of my PC and you can see not only the specs of the memory but the performance of the memory.
You can see from the screenshot that the memory I installed is running at 798.2 MHz in Dual Channel mode.
When the memory is running in dual channel mode, you multiply the clock speed by 2, so 798.2 x 2 = 1596.4 out of a max of 1600 MHz. I have 4 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory installed.
This utility will provide you all kinds of information regarding your PC's hardware.
