Hi:
You shouldn't have to force install the driver.
Yes, you are using the wrong version of the driver.
You need this one:
Intel Active Client Manager HECI Device Driver
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46001-46500/sp46137.exe
I am running W11 64 bit on my dc7800 and it works fine.

"I am running W11 64 bit on my dc7800 and it works fine".
success re the PCI thing, i cant even find it or the error it was complaining about! (yellow bang)
now for my even bigger question:
was your win 10 version 32 bit like mine before you loaded win 11? if so, can you guide me to a resource that explains the ins and outs for doing this?

The PCI Simple Communications Controller is the Intel Management Engine Interface device that needed the driver.
You can now find the device listed under the System Devices category in the Device manager in alphabetical order.
In order to upgrade to W11, since there is no 32 bit version of W11, you first have to clean install W10 64 bit.
That will require you to reinstall all of your programs and files because you cannot do an in-place upgrade from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS.
You will also need to have a minimum of 4 GB of memory installed.
8 GB would be preferable, which you probably don't have since you are running a 32 bit OS, which can only support a max of 4 GB of memory.
To clean install W10 make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
You will need to have a PC running a 64 bit version of Windows to do that.
Boot from the installation media.
When you get past the Install Now screen, you will be asked to enter the version of W10 you want to install (Home, Pro, etc).
Select the version you currently have installed.
Then you will be asked to enter a product key.
Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the W7 drivers you need from the support page.
Since the dc7800 is not supported by Microsoft for W11, you have to use a W11 hardware check bypass method to run W11 on your PC.
See the discussion below for how to upgrade from W10>W11 on a PC that does not meet the hardware requirements:
You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).
Also, there is one change you need to make to setting up the bootable Rufus W11 installation flash drive.
You need to change the Partition Scheme menu from GPT to MBR since the dc7800 does not support booting from a GPT-formatted drive.

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.
