HP EliteDesk 705 G5 Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 11

ElieDesk 705G5 sff upgrade with R7 pro 3700, but failed, it works normally with 2200G + Nvidia T600.

Do I need any setup of the bios and how?

Thank you in advance.

@Seatech-Alex,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

These are the processors compatible with an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF:

It does not mention the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G.  If you do have an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G installed, then you do not have an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF, but an HP EliteDesk 705 G4 SFF. If you do have an HP EliteDesk 705 G4 SFF, then an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 is not compatible with that system.

And yes, the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 and AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 3900 are compatible with an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF. Please note that these processors do not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card.

If you got an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF, make sure you got the most recent BIOS version (R06, R09) available for your PC: 02.21.01 Rev.A, released Sep 20, 2024:

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

Yes, I do have the AMD R3 2200G installed inside the HP 705G5 SFF with Win 11 which works very well.

I added an Nvidia T600 graphics card and works well too,

Now I tried to upgrade the CPU from R3 2200G to R7 pro 3700 but the monitor is black even the fan of the CPU running and the power light is lit up.
The bios is the latest version, 02.21.01 Rev.A, released Sep 20, 2024, from the HP website.

Anyway, thank you so much for your kind support.

@Seatech-Alex,

Please remember that an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 3700 does not have integrated graphics: it requires a separate discrete graphics card. If you plugged in your monitor into any of your motherboard's video outputs and not plugged in from a graphics card, you will get a black screen.

@Seatech-Alex,

For argument's sake, let's check what motherboard you got: please type in system information in your Windows search bar and look to the right of "BaseBoard Product".  It should be a 4-digit alphanumerical number.  Please give it to me.

Oh, I double-checked. The BIOS version of my 705G5 should be R06(Not R09) 02.21.01, issued on August 30, 2024. That's the problem, right?

Hi

The number of the motherboard is 8617.

@Seatech-Alex,

Interesting, because an HP SSID: 8617 motherboard is indeed listed as an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF motherboard -see the User benchmark link: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-EliteDesk-705-G5-SFF/161821, but I could find no HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF User with a Ryzen 7 PRO 2700.

The HP EliteDesk 705 G4 SFF has motherboard SSID: HP 83E8.

What the HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF User link does show though, is that there are two HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF motherboards: in addition to the one you have, there is a motherboard SSID: 8618, which is the only motherboard shown to be compatible with a Ryzen 7 PRO 2700.

Meaning, even though you apparently got a G5 motherboard, you don't have the right G5 motherboard which is compatible with a Ryzen 7 PRO 2700.
