HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Base Model Small Form Factor PC

Hey there!

I have an EliteDesk 800 G3 that suddenly won’t power on. It powered on just fine last night, but it no longer will as of this morning. When plugged in, the green AUX light on the motherboard is lit up; when the power button is pressed, the light labeled HD on the motherboard (not the light labeled PWR) lights up in white. The PWR light never lights up. These are the exact same symptoms mentioned in this closed thread.

I have tried unplugging and power cycling the device to no avail. I have also tried moving my one stick of RAM from DIM to DIM as proposed in the referenced thread, but that has not helped. I have additionally tried disconnecting the hard drive as proposed in the referenced thread, but that also has provided no changes.

@stephenshutters,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

@erico nailed it in the closed thread you referenced.  Meaning: could be any of the components he mentioned.

Given my upgrading experience with HP EliteDesk 800 G3/G4/G5 SFF platforms, it may be a power supply issue.  One of the easiest things you could try -with minimal effort, is to try out this quaint power supply troubleshooting technique: Repairing Power Supply on HP Computer - YouTube.  Not exactly an HP-approved method, but you may as well try it.

Hey, thanks for that troubleshooting recommendation! Unfortunately, the blow dryer did not work for me, so I’m doubtful that the PSU is the issue. However, I had already ordered a replacement PSU before I saw your reply in this thread, so I’ll still try that just in case.

@stephenshutters,

Thank you for your feedback!  Please let us know what difference, if any, the replacement power supply will make.
