Elitedesk 705 G4 MT

I’ve gotten my hands on an Elitedesk 705 G4 MT secondhand and I’ve been using it for personal use, but it’s way to slow for me, so I decided to upgrade the CPU. I found a spec sheet for this model and it said it supported the Ryzen 5 PRO 2600. So I bought one of those and slapped it into the motherboard, but now the system doesn’t POST. No speaker codes, just black screen and spinning fans. The original cpu was an AMD A10-9700, and that still works in the system, just not the new one. I’m also on the newest bios version. Is my new CPU dead or is there something I need to do to make it work?

edit: it’s not a problem with a lack of onboard graphics. I have a GTX 1660 super installed.

The CPU you upgraded to requires a discrete graphics card in order to work.

It cannot work with the onboard AMD motherboard graphics adapter.

So, if you have not installed a graphics card, that would be the reason for your dilemma.

I'd go for an inexpensive AMD RX550 which you can find plenty of them for sale on eBay.

Make sure you get one with the standard profile mounting bracket used for the MT PC's, not the low-profile mounting bracket used in the small form factor (SFF) PC's.

Should’ve mentioned I do have a GTX 1660 super installed

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the processor isn't working then.

The specs at the link below indicate the processor you installed is supported.

It could be possible that the processor you bought was DOA.

After reading the spec slightly more carefully, it has occurred to me that the motherboard chipset is a b350 FCH, which does not support the Ryzen 5 PRO 2600, or any non APU CPUs for that matter. If you’re in the same situation as me somehow, buy a Ryzen 5 2400g, that’s the best you’re gonna get out of this motherboard.

@Paul_Tikkanen,

The OP is incorrect: the best processors for the HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT are the Ryzen 7 PRO 2700 or the Ryzen 7 PRO 2700X.

Kind Regards,

Hi, @NonSequitur777

I know that, and so do all of these other folks that have the same model PC, and I see reports of the 2600 Pro working just fine.

I have 2600 pro I bought and it's doing the same trying.... Anyone have any solutions.

The original CPU was a pro 2400g with a amd 550 radeon

Hello, I have a similar problem. Have you solved the problem? I installed a Ryzen e 1200af on the motherboard, but I can't get an image even though I have an external graphics card. Do I need to update the bios?
