Expansion slot inserts

Not able to locate the proper area to post my question.  I added an adapter card into the PCIe x 4 slot.  The expansion insert will not fit   As you can see by the image below.  The one next to the ruler is the one I removed so as to insert the card, and the other one is from the adapter card.  I've never seen a setup like it is on the backside of the tower.  I've google in hopes of finding that will work.  For now, the card is inserted into the slot.  As long pc doesn't get bumped or anything like ta\hat, it probably will stay.  Because the expansion insert space is open, I put tape over to keep most of the dust out of the tower.  So any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks.

I'm not sure I can help you, but can you clarify some things?
First, is it this  model?

M01-F0024 Product Specifications

If so, you say you have installed a card in the pci x4 slot, out according to the product page you have a pci 1x slot, and a pci 16x slots :

Motherboard Specifications

• One PCIe x16 socket
• One PCIe x1 socket

So, what exactly is this card, link to the model if possible, and specify whether it is the 1x or the 16x used?

Can you give pictures from the back of the computer, there I do not quite realize ..

First of all, I made a typo mistake. It is an PC-Ie x1 not an x4.  The card I installed was an M.2 PCI-e PCIe adapter, M.2 to PCI-e 3.0 x1 expansion card.  Yes, HP desktop M01-F0024 is my product.

The two removed elements were already on the computer, right?
You probably have a "tab" that has to be broken to remove it, right?
The other must be there to fix the whole thing, that's what we can see in the document here

We find for example a card like this, normally it is standard, ( at least that's what I thought until then ) curious that it cannot be adapted

Thanks for this link, "  Upgrading and Servicing Guide ".

 By viewing pages 18 & 19, I was able to solve my issue.  All is fine now.  Up to now, I've always had had HP Pavilions.  the case and motherboards were easier to add devices.  At least for me. It was the price and memory that sold me.   I guess I was expecting something a little different.  But all is well.  So I do give you and this community a big hand.
