OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i (236B1AV)

I took the F.30 BIOS upgrade in an attempt to stop some crashes that had started happening last month. The crashes seem to have cleared up thankfully. However, since the F.30 upgrade, I can no longer OC my Kingston Fury Beast DDR4 RAM to its native clock speed of 3200 MHz using XMP Profile 1, as I was able to do in the F.20 BIOS. Every time I set it to XMP Profile 1, save the setting, and reboot, it goes to a black screen with three long beeps and two short ones. I then have to turn it off. When I turn it back on, a fail safe of some sort kicks in and resets the RAM profile back to default, enabling me to boot again, but with the RAM throttled again at 2400 MHz.

The default profile that it will boot on is as follows:

  • DRAM Frequency: 2400,
  • CAS Latency: 17,
  • RAS to CAS Delay/Row Precharge Time: 17,
  • Row Active Time: 39,
  • Minimum CAS Write Latency Time: 16,
  • Four Active Window Delay: 26,
  • Average Periodic Refresh Interval: 9364,
  • Minimum Refresh Recovery Time: 420,
  • Row Active to Row Active Delay Short: 4,
  • Read to Precharge Delay: 9,
  • Write Recovery Time: 18,
  • Internal Write to Read Command Delay Short: 0,
  • NMode: 1,
  • Voltage 1.20 volts.

The XMP Profile 1 I desire's specs are:

  • 3200
  • 18
  • 36
  • 20
  • 34
  • 12480
  • 560
  • 4
  • 12
  • 24
  • 0
  • 1
  • 1.35 volts

I've tried resetting the BIOS using the Win+V+Power button method. It was reset, as I saw that the time/date returned to factory default. However, I still couldn't use the custom profile. I also tried moving the RAM sticks from slots 1 and 3 to 2 and 4. After this, it allowed me to set it to XMP Profile 1. However, the clock speed was still set down from 3200 to 2400 MHz.

I've run this by Google Gemini and it thinks the problem lies with the F.30 BIOS, since the RAM works as long as it's on the throttled default profile and has also passed the Memtest86 test.

@wolf789,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Interesting. Downgrading the BIOS to the previous F.20* version would likely restore the ability to enable XMP and run the RAM at its rated 3200 MHz speed. However, HP generally does not provide an official way to roll back a BIOS update, as newer versions often contain security patches and stability improvements.

That said, there are a few things you can try:

1. Download and Try to Install BIOS F.21:

2. Force Downgrade Using Win+B or Win+V Method:

3. Check HP Forums or Reddit:

  • Some HP OMEN users have found ways to force a rollback using third-party tools or extracting the older BIOS file manually. However, this carries a risk of bricking the motherboard.

Alternative Workarounds (If Downgrade Fails):

If the downgrade isn't possible, you may need to:

  • Check regularly if HP releases a new BIOS update that resolves the XMP issue.

  • Contact HP Support to report the problem and ask if they can provide a BIOS fix.

* I looked for the BIOS F.20 version you referenced but could not locate it.

Kind Regards,
