Pavilion 500-267c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Ok so I've had this issue for a while. I have a Pavilion 500-267c I use at work. Has Intel i3-4130, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10. Last month the motherboard went out pretty spectacularly while I was swapping around monitor cables. All of a sudden, fans spun up to warp speed, screens went all funky with psychedelic colors, and the system froze. After a hard reboot, screens stayed black and no activity whatsoever. No POST. No beeps, nothing. I condemned the board and swapped it out with an Asus B85M-G R2.0. I didn't do a clean Windows install because everything was working fine...except the front USB 3 ports. My external hard drive won't get power and nothing mounts. I tried updating the Asus motherboard drivers, re- seating the cable, uninstalling the USB drivers, but nothing worked so I sent it back and got another Asus board, this time the upgraded B85M-E/CSM. Everything worked fine, except the front USB 3.0. I looked in the BIOS, and I don't see anything show up when I plug anything in the front USB ports. There are no Windows 10 USB drivers for this board. Is it possible that the deal with the front USB ports died? The audio ports works fine, and the USB ports worked before the factory board died. Are there specific HP drivers that only work with that part? I've swapped aftermarket boards into HP cases before worth no issues. Any help is appreciated!

Hello, @Nick_bruns – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for your continued participation on the HP Forums! I’d like to help with the desktop USB port issue!

I understand that you are facing issues with the USB port after the motherboard failure. Is the USB entries listed in your Device manager? Please let me know.

Let’s try to update the USB as suggested below:

  1. Disconnect all USB devices connected to the computer except a USB mouse and keyboard (if in use). This includes hubs, thumb drives, printers, and cameras.

  2. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

    The Device Manager window opens.

  3. Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list.

  4. Right-click the first USB Root Hub in the list, then select Uninstall.

  5. Click OK to confirm.

  6. Continue uninstalling all USB Root Hubs listed.

  7. Close Device Manager and restart the computer. This will update the USB drivers again.

Also, try the steps listed here if the issue persists: http://hp.care/2tkYEUo

Lastly, I’d suggest you perform a hardware test to check any port failure.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. Select the "Component test" and then select "USB port" from the list.
  5. Let me know if the test passes or not.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂
