Hello, @Nick_bruns – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for your continued participation on the HP Forums! I’d like to help with the desktop USB port issue!
I understand that you are facing issues with the USB port after the motherboard failure. Is the USB entries listed in your Device manager? Please let me know.
Let’s try to update the USB as suggested below:
-
Disconnect all USB devices connected to the computer except a USB mouse and keyboard (if in use). This includes hubs, thumb drives, printers, and cameras.
-
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
The Device Manager window opens.
-
Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list.
-
Right-click the first USB Root Hub in the list, then select Uninstall.
-
Click OK to confirm.
-
Continue uninstalling all USB Root Hubs listed.
-
Close Device Manager and restart the computer. This will update the USB drivers again.
Also, try the steps listed here if the issue persists: http://hp.care/2tkYEUo
Lastly, I’d suggest you perform a hardware test to check any port failure.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
- The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
- Select the "Component test" and then select "USB port" from the list.
- Let me know if the test passes or not.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂
