OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i (1A5Y8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I want to boot into BIOS to change the boot order to boot from a USB drive.

I try the following ways but get a blank screen: boot and press the ESC or F10 key; Advanced startup options within Windows … UEFI Firmware Setting; change monitor; change video cable.

I want to try clear CMOS by remove battery or use a jumper but don’t see them on motherboard.

Is there other way to reinstall new Windows 11 on computer?  Please help.

Hi @Kevin-Nguyen

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're facing challenges accessing the BIOS on your OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i to change the boot order.

Let’s explore alternative solutions to reinstall Windows 11 and address the BIOS issue:

1. Reinstall Windows 11 Without BIOS Access

You can reinstall Windows 11 directly from within the operating system using the built-in recovery options:

  1. Access Recovery Options:
    • Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
    • Under Recovery Options, click Reset this PC.
  2. Choose Reinstallation Method:
    • Select Cloud Download to download a fresh copy of Windows 11.
    • Alternatively, choose Local Reinstall if you have a recovery partition.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reinstallation.

2. Use Windows Installation Media

If you can’t access the BIOS to boot from USB, you can try initiating the installation from within Windows:

  1. Download the Windows 11 Installation Media on another computer.
  2. Create a bootable USB drive using the tool.
  3. Insert the USB into your OMEN 30L and run the setup.exe file from the USB drive within Windows.
  4. Follow the prompts to reinstall Windows.

3. Clear CMOS Without Battery or Jumper

If you want to reset the BIOS settings, here’s an alternative method:

  1. Power Off and Unplug:
    • Turn off the computer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Locate the CMOS Reset Pins:
    • Check your motherboard for pins labeled CLR_CMOS or Reset BIOS.
    • If you find them, use a conductive object (like a screwdriver) to short the pins for a few seconds.
  3. Restart the Computer:
    • Plug the computer back in and power it on.

4. Update BIOS Firmware

If the BIOS isn’t accessible, it might be due to a firmware issue:

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS update for your OMEN 30L.
  2. Run the update within Windows to reflash the BIOS.
  3. Restart the computer and try accessing the BIOS again.

I clear the CMOS and reboot the machine. Still get a blank screen but look like computer get to the Diagnostic and BIOS screens but not quite clear to see and to select. I tried 3 different monitors and cables but still cannot read & select options. Is it the problem with the video card or BIOS?

@Kevin-Nguyen

Thanks for troubleshooting; I appreciate all your efforts.

From your description, it seems like the issue could be related to either the video card or the BIOS, but let’s narrow it down:

Video Card Issue:

  • If the display is unclear or distorted across multiple monitors and cables, it’s possible the video card is not outputting correctly during the BIOS or diagnostic screens.
  • Some systems default to integrated graphics or specific ports (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort) for BIOS output. If you’re using a dedicated GPU, try switching to the motherboard’s video output (if available) to see if the display improves.
  • If you’re already using the integrated graphics, the GPU itself might need inspection or replacement.

BIOS Issue:

  • If the BIOS is partially visible but unreadable, it could indicate a corrupted BIOS or a compatibility issue with the display resolution.
  • You might need to update or reflash the BIOS. Visit the manufacturer’s support page for your motherboard or system to download the latest BIOS version and follow their instructions for updating it.

Other Considerations:

  • Cable and Port Compatibility: Ensure the monitors and cables support the resolution and refresh rate output by the BIOS.
  • Reset BIOS Settings Again: If the issue persists, try resetting the BIOS again by disconnecting power, holding the power button for 30 seconds, and reconnecting.

Let me know if this helps.
