Hello -

   I have tried to upgrade my graphics card in my PC with Nvidia Galaxy GeForce GTX 650. I have added it to the PCI slot available and the fan on the GPU is running but I am unable to connect a monitor to it. It doesn't detect an active connection. I also tried to add Nvidia drivers and the installer states "no compatible hardware found." I've checked the Device Manager utility and it only shows the stock Intel Graphics card and not the Nvidia. I went through BIOS and the PCI slots state enabled but am unable to activate the GPU there. I attempted to update BIOS as well but I have the most recent version per the utility.  The baseboard is HP 2AF3.  I'd appreciate any help with this problem.

Thanks

@Starboy2259 , welcome to the forum.

Here are the specifications for the card from nVidia:  https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/geforce-gtx-650/specifications/

If you look at the section titled "Supplementary Power Connectors", towards the bottom of the page, it shows "One 6-pin".  If your power supply unit (PSU) doesn't have the 6-pin supplemental power connector this is your problem.

Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Thank you for the welcome, @Old_geekster and your help with a prompt response.

I noticed I did have 2 - 6 pin connectors not connected from the PSU and connected one to the GPU. After restarting the computer with GPU connected to the PSU, the cooling fan came on but now neither monitor (one connected to new GPU and one connected to stock Intel graphics) worked. Since neither monitor worked, I couldn't troubleshoot further. Once I disconnected the PSU from the GPU the monitor connected to the Intel graphics worked. I've included some further specs on my PC down below if that is of some help.

You are welcome, @Starboy2259!

Here is what it states in the in the "Video" section of the Motherboard Specifications:  Integrated video not available if a graphics card or an Intel processor ending with “P” is installed.

This is the reason that the Integrated video is not working when the graphics card is installed.  I am not certain that having the monitor connected to the Integrated video will make a difference with the operation of the graphics card, but I would disconnect the monitor connected to the Integrated video and reconnect the graphics card to see what happens.

Also, check the minimum wattage required to operate the card properly.  I believe your 500W PSU should be fine, but want to make certain before moving on to the next step.

@old_geekster,

Aside from what you told the OP,  I realize the base issue.

Sometimes "we" can overlook simple 😄 Computer is UEFI.   Card is BIOS.  Process to correct this is fully explained.
