Reason why I would like to take a close look at the P2 power cable, is to see if it has the P2 equivalent format used by this ATX 24-pin HP power supply adapter: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/COMeap-Power-Supply-Workstation-ProDesk/dp/B06XW7RWNH/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2Y....
Look, if your HP 290 G1 MT was my upgrade project, I definitely would be looking into/consider this power upgrade option.
What this entails, is to use the aforementioned ATX power supply adapter, which allows you to replace your original proprietary HP power supply with an industry standard ATX power supply, like what I applied in my HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower upgrade project.
Since I concluded this upgrade project, I fitted a higher end graphics card (RTX 2060 Super), still powered by a 400-watt ATX power supply:

Most times, different P2 wire color schemes are a lesser issue, or no issue at all. However, the ATX power adapter wouldn't work for your desktop because your power supply has a 7-pin P2 connector, whereas the ATX power adapter is designed for 6-pin P2 power connectors.
