This is not so much a question but a statement for upgrades for the 3420 AIO.

I tried a Intel Xeon E3-1260L CPU to replace the i3-2130 with ...

Oh joy that it did boot and shows all 4 core operating with all threads ie 8 threads !!

Greetings kc7noa,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Very nice.

That is interesting because HP never validated Xeon processors on your PC.

The two processors have many common characteristics which can be reviewed at this link.

Hi kc7noa,

Again, very nice.

The CPU ID on both processors match.

I would guess this is why the Xeon worked with the HP BIOS.

That was something i worried about ....

I got the HP3420 kinda cheap , because the lcd was shattered ....

Its taken forever to find a replacement -- and still needed rework ... was labeled as a LM200WD3-TLC7 but was a LM200WD1-TLC1.... darn CCFL was bad.

Now waiting for an universal led upgrade ...

Meaning i have no idea what the BIOS level is .... im glad it worked -- though now i see a few i7-2600S for under 100$.

Hey does any one know what the realistic throughput of the mPCIe2 is? If the BIOS was not at the latest (last) .... would an update help with mPCIe throughput?

Hi kc7noa,

The system board has an Intel H61 chipset sporting PCIe 2.0.

There are no BIOS updates for your system.

You can check at this link.

I have seen that link .... and that the mPCIe is 2.0 protocol ... i did get a chipless mPCIe to USB3.0 card and throughput was dismal .... around USB1.1 speeds ....

Just received a replacement for that cheap card with one that has a interface IC .... ill report later if it improves --- and with the exact card modle/number

I do have a question now ....

Does the BIOS for the 3420 have an option to turn off legacy usb support .... or for USB3.0 support?

My just arrived mPCIe to USB3.0 card only so far is adding a PCI bridge to my Ubuntu install ... no new usb controller....

Its partly working ... chip on mPCIe card is D720202

Might be an old xhci problem with Ubuntu 18.04 ... not sure yet

Hi kc7noa,

The 3420 only shows USB 2.0 support. I see USB 2.0 I/O at the product's specification site.

Did the adapter card come with a USB 3.0 driver disc? PCIe 2.0 gets up to about 500 MB/sec data transfer rates. With the correct USB 3.0 driver you should get good speeds.

You can check Legacy BIOS menus/sub menus and settings at this HP Support site (link).
