Installed Evga 500 watt supply with MB adapter in an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 tower. Works fine except at boot time, I now get message that the power supply fan is not detected. The fan is running just fine. Is there a solution for this issue?

Your adapter is general purpose and is not designed to pass the RPM signal.
Take your old power supply apart, find the RPM wire from the fan and see where it goes.
There should be 3 wires from the fan in the old supply. Guessing: One goes to 12v "yellow", one goes to ground "black" and the remaining one is the tachometer cable. If it goes to pin 3 (for example) on the old connector then look at your adapter. There should be a matching pin3 and it should be empty.
You need to take the tachometer lead from the CPU (or any fan for that matter) and put the tach wire into that pin 3 socket.
If in doubt, take a picture or two and post here.
