That sounds exactly the same as my issue including the unknown usb device.
I am in the same boat as well with warranty. My warranty will be out beginning of Jan and I am not in a situation to back up all my wifes business stuff to another PC at this time...

@Effz525Try installing the touchscreen firmware and graphics driver from recovery manager and check if it helps.^^This is the essence of most PC troubleshooting discussions - a completely shot-in-the-dark response using an archaic approach to solving a significant problem that should never happen in the first place. First, the HP hardware, its drivers, and integration of Windows 10 makes it an abysmal combo of issues that are not easy to remedy. Second, that we all got duped into buying this POS is shameful!

I also have had the same issue. Contacted support and told to pay an extremem amount of money. Then was told the windows update was what caused the problem.
Curious to know how you reached the CEO because i also spoke with a supervisor who said he'd grant an exception and fix the issue and then hung up on me! Frustrated with HP support and my next purchase won't be an HP since their features do not work past 1 year it seems.

I have exactly the same issue. MY HP Touch screen has stopped working and there is nothing available in device manager to reinstall or enable. I have tried been to the HP Site and let it detect my make and model and downloaded and updated all of the drivers it suggested but still no go. I have done a full recovery and still doesn't work. I tried recovery manager but it says recovering applications and drivers is no longer supported and has been disabled. This is very frustrating to say the least. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

@effy123 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that the touchscreen is not working.
I have a few steps that should resolve your concern:
I recommend checking if the Touch is working on BIOS (Accessed by tapping on F10 while restarting the computer).
If it works on bios, it's a software issue, update the drivers from the HP Website, if the issue persists: please reinstall windows using the recovery partition or the recovery media to fix the issue
Attempt to run a test using the HP hardware diagnostic tool,
If it doesn't work on BIOS or the diagnostics tool either,
it's a hardware failure and you may need to Contact HP to set up a hardware repair service.
let me know how that pans out,
And the answer to the above question will help me, help you!
Keep me posted, and if any of the above questionnaires helped resolve the issue,
Mark this post as an "Accepted Solution".
Good luck.

Came here for the same problem. I tried everything posted here and on other sites and I have definitely concluded it is a hardware issue for me aswell.
It is a shame to see this is such a common issue.
Sadly this isnt my first time i have had motherboard issues with an HP product, but after this it will be my last.
