DC7900 Ultra-slim Desktop
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Will any Core 2 Quads work in the Ultra-slim Desktop? The technocal refference guide is a little vague on requirements.

It says:

The USDT form factor can support a processor rated up to 65 watts. The SFF and CMT form factors can support a processor rated up to 95 watts. Exceeding these limits can result in system damage and loss of data.

Does this mean the Q9550(the 65W version) would work?

Thanks!

Hi:

Below is the link to the quickspecs for the dc7900 model series.

http://shop.itema-pg.com/userfiles/editor/file/7900.pdf

The supported processors can be found on pages 9 and 10.

No quad core processors are supported in the USDT form factor.

The processors are a little too expensive to experiment with.

Highly doubtful the Q9550S would work at all, because it is not supported for any model in the series, and there probably isn't a microcode update for it that would allow it to work without a microcode error report at each boot.

Thanks Paul

I've ordered an E8600 to be sure, and the cheaper Q8400S to experiment with.

I will report my findings in here later.

You're very welcome.

If you do get the microcode error, but the PC works with the Q8400S, let me know, and I will give you the instructions for how to update the microcode.

That way, you would have at least tried it.   It may resolve the problem. It may not.

The Q8400S worked perfectly. No errors or warnings, using the latest bios. 🙂

That is great news.

Thanks for the update.

I found this topic looking for info on a 'max' CPU upgrade for the dc7900 Ultra-slim. I would like to add...

feeling lucky after reading this thread I picked up the Intel Q9505s from ebay for cheap.

this CPU also works.

using: BIOS 786G1 v01.23 Dated 12/11/09.

Thanks to OP if he ever sees this.
