I want to upgrade to an Nvidia GPU in my desktop. I am not looking for the latest and greatest; maybe last gen? Has anyone done this with the model? What did you select? What are the issues? Do I need to upgrade the power supply? That is one thing that will determine what card I get. Thank you for taking a look at this.

@xenon281,

Yes, many HP motherboards have proprietary power connectors, not compatible with standard 24-pin ATX power supplies.

Indeed, you should consider building/buying a new machine.

@xenon281,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Desktop M01-F1024 PC (1J7K2AA) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06955132, is fitted with an anemic 180 watt power supply.

Your Erica5 motherboard (SSID: 87D7) is compatible with the following HP power supply upgrades:

HP 400 watt PSU: p/n L04618-800
HP 500 watt PSU: p/n L05757-800

As per: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Desktop-M01-F1xxx/200076, the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super is very popular with your specific desktop (Erica5, SSID: 87D7).  This graphics card requires a 450 watt minimum PSU as per: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/compare/?section=compare-16.

Obviously, I would go with the 500 watt L05757-800 power supply.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@xenon281,

Btw, the 500 watt HP L05757-800 power supply units are pricey, but available.

Look around online, such as here: HP L05757-800: Search Result | eBay, and: L05757-800 - Hewlett-Packard (HP) - Power Supply PSU 500W - Parts-HQ Replacement Parts.

I appreciate the information. I think I was a bit unclear with my question. Is the motherboard proprietary (ie. the cables are not standard ATX connectors), therefore I am limited to the HP power supplies?

Yeah, at these prices, I might just consider a new machine. i will eke the life out of this one, and save my pennies to build one, I think.
