Hello All,
I've just tried to upgrade the memory on my HP ENVY Desktop 750-247c (bought from Costco) to DDR4-3200 (4x16GB UDIMM, total 64GB) but it gave me the black screen on restart.
After several attempts to troubleshoot the issue, I realize my PC doesn't support 3200 even if "Crucial by Micron" product selector ensured it would be supported?
In fact, every Ram combination would work (PC would power up and will always recognize the memory as DD4-2133) but when I put a DDR4-3200 in the first slot (it will gimme a black screen). Is there any solution you can pls recommend?

Sorry, maybe I don't get it
everything you say..
But often, mixing different modules can cause problems
If you can't get the computer to work, with all of your new modules, then yes best to replace them..
unless there is a hardware problem with the slots..
Now that you are trying to install 64 gb, is certainly useless for me, 32 gb is already more than enough!
I have 16 gb, and no problem
If you have the original graphics card, however, this could be a problem.

hi
Memory upgrade information
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Four DDR4 DIMM (288-pin) sockets
- Supports PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
- Supports 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB DDR4 DIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. - Supports up to 64 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
Intel Core i7-6700
DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V
here, so what is supported, by HP motherboard
and what is supported by the processor
So no compatibility indicated for either of the two
If you tested the crucial scan here
in general indeed no error, even if the module operates at the speed supported by the motherboard..
Now I did not understand well, if you have the problem only with a slot, and a new module?
The computer, works with all ddr4 3200 modules in all slots except slot 1
If you use each module one by one in slot one, it won't work?
Excluding each module in the others one by one, no problems?
Possible problem with slot one itself if this is the case

Thanks much Prométhée, I didn't realize the CPU was only capable of 2133Mhz, my bad!
Original system configuration is: 2x8GB @2133 + 2x4GB @2133 -> Total 24GB @2133.
The issue showed up when I installed all 4x16GB @3200 UDIMM modules -> got a black screen (but no beeps from the system at power-on), while the rest of the PC seemed to work fine (e.g. LAN LEDs blinking ok)!
I troubleshot the issue and realized that every memory combination/mix would work and the PC would, of course, recognize the overall installed memory as @2133 (lowest memory speed), even when I used some of the 16GB @3200 UDIMM for some of the slots (e.g. second slot and/or third slot and/or fourth slot have a 16GB @3200 UDIMM).
Issue (black screen) only happens when I have one of the 16GB @3200 UDIMM modules installed in the first slot (regardless of what I have in second/third/forth slot: e.g. I would get a black screen with any combination of @2133/@3200 types).
E.g. If I have 8GB @2133 in first slot, and 16GB @3200 each in second/third/fourth slot, then no issue and PC would recognize total 56GB @2133 (expected!). If now I switched the 8GB @2133 in first slot with last available 16GB @3200 module, I'd get the black screen.
This would tell me the PC is not able to manage the total 64GB @3200 memory even at downgraded 2133Mhz speed?
Is there a solution to this issue so I can use the 64GB at 2133Mhz (downgraded speed)?
If not, I think I will need to ship the 4 modules back to Crucial, thx much!
