I am thinking about upgrading the graphic card to at least an 8gb card from Nvidea. Is there a particular model (or several) that a) work with my desktop and b) that can be recommended for this?

Upgrading your particular model series might be a bit hit or miss as it is not a series that many people have tried.

There is little information on which video cards are compatible on the internet.

Here is a forum thread that does have some useful information for you.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-795-0037cb-Graphics-Car...

For an 8GB card you will likely need two PCIe power connectors from the PSU.

With that said, you will have to upgrade the installed PSU.

I wouldn't  sink much $$ into upgrading a four year old pc. That is just me.

It is your $$ and your PC.

@Mark605,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

Your HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0008ng PC (4PS60EA) according to: HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0008ng PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support, is fitted with a Berks motherboard (SSID: 844C) and according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=4PS60EA&searchby=product, also fitted with a 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800 "Power Supply - GNRC PSU 400W SFF Entl FR" -please verify.

Not to digress, but according to this information: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model..., your desktop is also compatible with this 500-watt power supply with p/n: L05757-800, which can be purchased online, such as through eBay or AliExpress.

With a 400-watt power supply, you could upgrade your graphics card such as a GTX 1660 6GB, GTX 1660 Super 6GB, GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, GTX 1060 6GB, RTX 2060 6GB, RTX 3050, RTX 3060 12GB, GTX 1070 8GB, GTX 1070 Ti 8GB, or an GTX 1080 8GB.

In my opinion, stick with Nvidia cards for best performance and stability.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
