Hi
As the subject says my HP ENVY TE02-1002na Desktop will not turn on, no lights, no fans, no life at all. I purchased in 2023 and the warrenty has expired now. I am writing for repair/upgrade advice
I hope that it is simply a matter of a dead power supply unit. If this does turn out to be the case, I am considering upgrading, installing more RAM (currently 16GB) and or replacing the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050 graphics card with something better.
I have a dream of playing Death Stranding 2 if or when it is released on PC, if I upgrade and replace the PSU, do I have any hope of running it? I used to be quite knowledgeable on matters like this in the old days, but the times have overtaken me:)
Thanks......Chris

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
According to the specs, your HP ENVY TE02-1002na (7M501EA) is fitted with the ArcticU motherboard which is designated by SSID: 8A97, but when I look at HP ENVY TE02-1xxx Userbenchmarks, the SSID is listed as 8A9B. Regardless, you got an ATX-powered motherboard, with a 500-watt ATX power supply with p/n: M98828-001 "POWER SUPPLY UNIT PERSAN3 500W ATX EPA85 4O/P, UNICO", which happens to be an HP-branded Cooler Master power supply.
The recommended graphics card to play Death Stranding 2 On the Beach is an RTX 2080. The modern equivalent would be an RTX 5060, which you can buy rather inexpensively (as graphics cards go these days) via Amazon for under 225 quid, such as this Amazon-UK purchase example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GeForce-WINDFORCE-Graphics-GV-N5060WF2OC-8GD/dp/B0F6NLT7M4/ref=sr_....
A quality power supply replacement for your PC would be a Corsair CX550, but if you want something generic/cheaper, this GameMax 500W "Rampage" would do.
The difference in graphics performance between your RTX 3050 and an RTX 5060 is very significant: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-5060-vs-Nvidia-RTX-3050/4184vs4127: you won't be disappointed!

I have ordered the Corsair and hope to revive my PC tomorrow.
Sifting through all the information and products available on the internet would have been a very large mountain to climb for me, I am very greatfull for the advice of an expert:)

I have tested the PC with the new PSU and I'm happy to say it did come completely back to life:)
I have been following a guide video on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVSveCM-Sds
There is a small issue I did not anticipate, the new power unit has a ribbon SATA cable that is too short to connect to both the I/O module and the hard drive (as they are secured in the case). I think I will need a SATA extension cable to fully install the unit, but they are very cheap on amazon. The only other noticeable thing was that there are 2 4 pin power conectors on the motherboard but only 1 has been connected since I purchased the PC, I assume that 1 connector is sufficient for the CPU I have installed.
I'll order the new Graphics card and SATA extention, unless you advise me otherwise, thanks again for your help

I've had some time to install the new PSU as well as the RTX 5060.
Firstly the PSU. If anyone is reading this has a similar problem and needs to replace the power supply of a similar PC. The Corsair unit (linked above) is certainly high quality, but the protective sheeth around the wires means they are not easily flattened, a more generic unit might be easier to install. I needed a SATA power extention, and because of the way the hard drive is secured there is only space in the PC case for a right angled SATA power plug. If you have OCD (like me) getting an extention for the 4 pin motherboard conector will make for a much neater and tidier instilation:)
Secondly the RTX 5060. After instilation I went fo a stroll round the lower city of Baldur's Gate. I have to say the city has never looked so pretty and when I fast travel, there is no longer any waiting for textures to load. I decided to spend some of the money I saved by not buying a new PC on FF7 Rebirth (on sale on Steam now). Certainly a big step up from the 3050.
Thanks again for your time and advice, I'll mark the thread as solved now
