Currently have 260W PSU inside of HP Elite 800 G9 SFF

Part Number: M76034-004

A 400W option is mentioned here https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_5868647-5868732-16

@MH_E,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

An excellent question, one I had to deal with a number of times when I upgraded various HP desktops: by trial and error.

To make a long story short, what I am going to suggest to you is just my best effort since HP has not compiled any comprehensive power supply compatibility spreadsheet.

The 400-watt power supply that may be compatible with your PC has p/n: 942332-001 (L04618-800).  Now, there are different versions of the 942332-001 PSU, some have P2 power connectors with just three wires (black, empty, grey, green), but what you want is the 400-watt version with the P2 power connector having six (6) wires: black, empty, grey, green, black, white and red:

Here is a purchase example of the correct version you want from a trusted eBay-UK Seller who also allows for returns if this power supply doesn't work for you: Genuine HP L04618-800 GNRC PSU 400W SFF Entl FR | eBay.

Hope that this works out!

Kind Regards,

@MH_E,

And you may be aware of a previous related discussion I participated in with a possible 500-watt power supply option:
