Yes i have it on the 2.5 ssd. I already done that with no luck. Is there a way to find out if the slot is defective?

Unfortunately, that I wouldn't know.

If there is a way, you would probably need specialized electronics testing equipment to diagnose a problem like that.

Hello Paul_Tikkanen,

I think I've found the problem. According to the seller's description, it is an NVMe SSD. But I just found a picture on the internet where there are two bulges, so a SATA SSD, an NVMe SSD has only one bulge. All I have to do now is buy a proper NVMe to test it.

Hi:

I don't believe that's the problem.

According to the HP 800 G3 Quickspecs, page 17, NVMe SSD's are supported for all form factors.

HP Elite 800 G3 Business Desktop Business PCs (bargainhardware.co.uk)

It indicates that HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB in the model series.

I installed a Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3 x 4 NVMe SSD in my 800 G3 DM, and that drive only has one notch as most of the newer NVMe SSD's have.

This is the part number and an illustration of the 256 GB NVMe SSD HP installed in the 800 G3 SFF that came with one according to the parts list...one notch.

As I wrote yesterday, Windows installed without the need of additional drivers and the 1 TB NVMe SSD works fine.

Now, if you have a M.2 SATA SSD with two notches and want to test it out just to confirm the slot is working, that would be a good idea.

But I would only do that if you have one lying around, or you can return it to the seller if it doesn't work.

If Windows can't find a SATA M.2 SSD to install on, then the slot can't be working.

Hello,

strange then all m.2 pcie adapter that i found all say the same, they all just support the m.2 with one notch. Well i will find out on tuesday when the 980 1 TB PCIe 3 x 4 NVMe SSD arrives. I will let you know.

I hope it works and your PC just didn't like the model you installed.

I have heard of that happening on rare occasions.

Hello,

just wanted to let you know that the m.2 sata was the problem, with the nvme it all works 😀.

So happy

Now to the next project maybe someone can help me, i already startet a new forum conversation.

That is great news.

I'm surprised the slot doesn't support SATA M.2 SSD's too but I guess the PC is too new to have a slot that supports both.

NVMe is faster anyway.
