I'm hoping to install a 256GB M.2 SSD into the open slot on the Basswood motherboard for my desktop, cloning my existing HDD onto it (it only has about 135GB used at the moment), then using the 1TB HDD as the big storage.  From what I'm reading, I want a NVMe M.2 for the Basswood AM4 socket Promontory 2.  My question is basically, will the HP EX920 256GB do the trick?  Thanks for your time and any consideration.

@Gabbagul Welcome to HP Forums Community!

I've gone through the motherboard specifications and yes, you should be able to upgrade to the 256GB SSD of your choice, that said, I must mention that HP neither supports nor recommends upgrade or cloning (could have os configuration errors, if not right) as the device is designed to work at its optimal performance.

Although, you are welcome to upgrade at your own discretion.

Well, the good news is, the HP EX920 256GB arrived in 2 days, and with the third-party cloning software, (HP doesn't offer any), I had the drive up and running in no time.  Restarted a few times, changed my boot order so it was loading from the SSD, upgraded the firmware, to ensure I wouldn't get the 54C temperature bug that some of the older firmwared EX920s were having, and wiped my 1 TB HDD.  Including the recovery partition.  Then the day took a dark turn.  Got a HardError message.  Had to do a hard shutdown.  Now it will not boot, and my recovery is wiped.  The drive lasted less than 12 hours, and I can get into HP Diagnostics, and am getting Short DST and Long DST Warnings when I run the SSD test.  At this point, it seems like my only option is to order recovery media, a 16GB USB from HP (thank goodness they still offer it and it hasn't been phased out yet, PC is less than two years old).  However... HP wants to charge me $45-50 for the USB recovery stick.  Because the HP SSD I bought from them torpedo'ed my HP PC.  I can see why "HP neither supports nor recommends upgrade or cloning", and possibly why the EX920 was such a nice price.  A frustrating ending to a hopeful day, to be sure.
