I'm sort of new to upgrading computers, but I've changed my HDD to a Samsung 860 SSD a couple years ago.  I also upgraded the Intel Optane memory module, which uses M.2 built in.  Probably doesn't help much for an SSD but I see a little more speed.
My question is if anyone knows if the expansion slots in my motherboard for my computer can take an adaptor so I can add an M.2 NVME Samsung 970 1TB drive to store and use as backup.  I have the modem plugged in that I replaced the one that was built-in with and another expansion plug-in that I use to add 2 internal, smaller drives I've had for a while...none over 256G.  But, there's this large one inside that has nothing plugged into it and I'm not sure what type of slot it is.  As I said I'm sort of new to this but am trying to learn.
Can anyone look up my computer and look at the motherboard and see if adding the adaptor and M.2 NVME to that large slot wiill work?  If it does I will probably replace the Optane chip/board with another M.2 NVME to run...hopefully one or the other as my main, boot hard drive so I can dump these other drives.

I deduce that you are talking about the pci 16x slot, since there is no graphics card!
If so, better an m2 ssd, and possibly if possible add a small graphics card

you are limited by the 180w power supply
so either replace it later or install a less powerful model

Thanks.  I wasn't sure if the large one was a PCI or not.  As I said, I'm still a newbie on upgrades and really prefer to learn...without messing anything up...lol.

HOPEFULLY I'm on the right track.  If not feel free to let me know.  I know I'd rather run 2 of those M2s than to run all these other SSD and HDD 256G drives.

I cannot certify, this type of connection may not work
and the computer will run much better if you remove the 16gb m2, and use the slot with windows install on a larger m2 ssd..
if I followed correctly instead of a sata SSD, slower!
In addition, adding a graphics card can be useful later.

Oh, OK.  I'll remove that M2 Optane chip and look into a 2 or larger tb and put it there with a heat sink and a larger fan I plan on adding for more airflow to keep it cooler and toss those other drives to a USB SATA plug in the back USB ports and just move it all to the new drive.  Probably will keep that SSD SATA for holding movies to play on a tv or such, or just an emergency backup drive just in case.

Later a graphics card is on my agenda but right now I just need storage and a better drive to boot up from than the small SATA Samsung 860 256G I have....was given to me when this HDD 1TB went nuts and destroyed itself.
