@t4ki,

Trust me, I understand completely.  It is really too bad that far too many desktops are stocked with PSUs significantly lacking in wattage capacity.

sry for still draging this but just as confirmation, if i changed the psu would the gtx 1080ti fit in the case totaly fine? 💀

@t4ki,

Regardless of fit, the GTX 1080 Ti requires a minimum of 600 watt or greater system power supply with one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe supplementary power connectors as per: GTX_1080_Ti_User_Guide.pdf (nvidia.com).

Where are you getting your 600 watt from?

Ill just stick with the 1660 ti then 😅

Hi, You seem quite knowledgeable on the HP systems so I'm hoping you can solve this mystery.  The TG01-1209 comes standard with the GTX 1660 Super which has a recommended 450W PSU but the TG01-1209 only has the 310W Gold PSU.   I have a 690-0039 (i5-8400) with the same PSU and would like to install the GTX 1660 Super in place of the GTX 1050 ti.

Given that HP's engineers seem content to use the 1160 Super with the 310W PSU, would that imply that I should also be OK?

I don't have an issue upgrading the PSU if necessary but the genuine HP ones are hard to find and generally quite pricy and I'm concerned that the lower cost "genuine" HP PSU's sold on Ebay from China may not be 100% compatible (ie: won't startup properly on boot signal or POST error)

Thanks

@Plantagenet1963,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1209 (13Z87AA) as per: https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c06942240, is indeed fitted with a 310-watt PSU to power an HP edition of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6 GB.

Please note that HP-branded graphics cards use less power than the standard industry brands, but still, one has to wonder why HP engineers thought it acceptable to power such cards with at best marginal-wattage delivering power supplies?

By all means, you could try out and see if the HP GTX 1660 Super will work in your HP Pavilion 690-0039 Gaming Desktop.

However, in my professional opinion, I still seriously question running this PC + GTX 1660 Super on just 310-watt...

According to: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model..., your Baker motherboard (SSID: 8767) is compatible with the 400-watt power supply (HP p/n: L69242-800), which I would recommend at a minimum.

You are correct, proprietary OEM HP power supplies are pricey. You can get one priced at $109 (includes S/H to the US) here: https://www.365powersupply.com/product/l69242-800-400w-power-supply-for-hp-86-pro-g2pro-288-g4-g5-mt....

@Plantagenet1963,

And for your HP Pavilion 690-0039 Gaming Desktop, fitted with a Lincs motherboard (SSID: 843B), I would recommend the 400-watt HP (p/n): L04618-800, which you can get via eBay here: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=HP+L04618-800&_sacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=2&LH_BIN=1&_sop=15 -unless I am mistaken, I see that you can actually get one of these [11/25/2022 at 12:24 PST] for just $19.80!

And the Lincs motherboard is also compatible with the 500-watt L05757-800 power supply.  Again, these are (way) pricey.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thank You for the prompt response.  One more question, Do you think there is really a difference between the L69242-800 at 365powersupply and the L04618-800 on Ebay.   They are both currently $79.99 and I would prefer to order from the US if possible (I'm in Canada).  The L69242-800 actually sounds closer as it has the 7 pin connector with only 3 wires (like my 310W) but the L04618-800 on Ebay has 7 wires in that same connector.  The L69242-800 claims to be compatible with the Pavilion series.

Thanks Again!!

BTW, the one for $19.80 is not an HP despite the ad title and looks quite different, too bad as that would have been a great price.
