Hello. I was wondering if anyone can assist me with upgrading my computer. Its a pre build I got 6 years ago. I will post specs down below. There are changes I've made 2 years ago like upgrading the drive to an 1TB SSD and RAM to 16GB. If possible, I'm looking towards upgrading the GPU and CPU. Something like a 2060 i7 7700 or i7 7700K. A new power supply is needed too since the one currently is 300w. I've done some research but a lot of the information is rather confusing for me to understand so any advice will be appreciated, thank you.
Specs
- GTX 1060 3GB
- Intel Core i5-7400
- 16GB RAM
- 1TB SSD
- Odense2-K Motherboard

Welcome to the HP Forum.
You should be able to do a: power supply upgrade, graphics card upgrade, and a CPU upgrade.
I am not familiar with your PC's case so you would have to do some measuring to verify the power supply upgrade and the graphics card upgrade.
The power supply in your case is a uATX part. I would measure the power supply to see what will fit in the case. A standard ATX PSU (150 mm width, 86 mm height, and typically 140 mm depth. Or 5.9 inches, 3.9 inches, 5.5 inches respectively) may not work with your PC's case.
I would measure along the graphics card PCIe x16 slot to check for graphics card options. You can do a dual slot card that fits in the case.
Find a graphics card that fits and then get a PSU that works with the graphics card and the case.
The i7-7700 (non"K") version would be a good option. The "K" version will not work with your MB.

Yes. Thank you a lot for the support. I need to purchase a measuring tape but I’ve done some research on the dimensions of the power supply, case and GPU PCIe x16 slot posted down below
PSU Dimensions:
- 150mm x 87mm x 140mm
Case Dimensions:
- Height: 36.40 cm (14.33 in)
- Width: 16.51 cm (6.50 in)
- Depth: 37.80 cm (14.88 in)
GPU PCIe x16 Slot Dimensions:
- 5.5 Inches
Graphics Card Dimensions:
- 11.2 cm x 17.3 cm (4.4 x 6.8 in)
Some were saying that these graphics cards along with a new power supply would fit into my motherboard and case.
PSU: Corsair 650 watt CV650
ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2060 EVO OC Edition Graphics Card 12GB
EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 XC Black Gaming12GB
MSI GeForce RTX 2060 VENTUS GP OC Graphics Card

Thanks for the additional info.
Is the 150mm, 87mm, 140mm in your response the HP power supply measurement? If so, you can do a standard ATX power supply in your case.
The MB (HP Image at this Site) is 9.4 inches along the PCIe x16 slot so you can do any dual slot graphics card around this length. I see a front USB 3 connector at the right edge of the MB that might cause a problem with a dual slot graphics card.
You might be able to do a longer graphics card with a case length of 14.88 inches if there are no obstructions along the PCIe x16 slot.
I have been advised by a Forum member your MB will support a 7700K CPU.

Hello and thank you again for responding to my message.
"Is the 150mm, 87mm, 140mm in your response the HP power supply measurement? If so, you can do a standard ATX power supply in your case."
- Yes those are the dimensions of my current power supply for my desktop. If so a standard ATX power supply will fit in my case, what power supply do you recommend I should get? I have a good idea of what I want.
- MSI GeForce RTX 2060 VENTUS GP 12G OC Graphics Card
- i7 7700k
Based off that, I think you could give me a recommendation for a power supply. Also, I have done some additional research on forums and some were saying that I may need to change my CPU fan or Heatsink if I upgrade to a i7 7700k as well as the other fan in my case. Do I need to upgrade the fans as well or do I keep them but just replace the CPU only?
Also I am including a photo I found from another forum for any possible evaluations you can make. Thank you!

My pleasure.
Again, I have not done any upgrades in this case so my upgrade suggestions would be limited to general case specs.
Power Supply:
The Corsair power supply you previously mentioned should work. But I would look at a modular Corsair power supply. The case is tight, a modular PSU would limit cable clutter.
Graphics card:
The MSI 2060 card is a little over 10 inches. Your case has a vertical support where the HDD is located. You might have a problem using a 10 inch graphics card.
CPU cooler:
A CPU tower type heatsink/fan cooler could be a problem. It appears you might be limited to a 92 mm tower and fan. Or look at a downdraft CPU cooler. I don't have specific CPU cooler recommendations as I build systems using ATX cases.
You may have to tear down the system and remove the MB to install the new CPU cooler backplate.
Noctua makes some smaller downdraft CPU coolers which may work with your MB and case.
uATX cases have space limitations which limit component upgrade options.
Maybe @NonSequitur777 can jump in and add some thoughts on what would work with your case and MB.

Thank you, @Bill_To, happy to chime in.
@TheMasterchef, this is what I would like to add to this discussion.
The specs of your Odense2-K motherboard specify processor compatibility up to a 91-watt TDP, hence compatibility for an i7-7700K:
Your stock "Kidd" CPU heatsink for your HP Pavilion Power 580-023w is also designed to deal with higher wattage processors:
Meaning, you probably don't have to worry about (over-)heating issues.
As mentioned, your HP Pavilion Power 580-023w (Z5N95AA) is powered with a 300-watt power supply (p/n: 859758-800) with these dimensions: 150mm x 87mm x 140mm.
I would recommend a Corsair CX650M (650-watt) semi-modular power supply, priced at $69.99 here. This PSU has the same dimensions as your stock 300-watt power supply (p/n: 859758-800): 5.91 x 3.39 x 5.51 inches (150mm 87m x 140mm). This power supply is a very good compromise minimizing cable clutter as @Bill_To mentioned, pricing and wattage.
As far as a graphics card is concerned, if your budget allows it, I would recommend to aim a little higher: either a mini RTX 2060 Super or a mini RTX 2070.
Kind Regards,
NonSequitur777

Thanks for adding your thoughts.
I missed the 91 watt TDP limit for the CPU upgrade options and zeroed in on the CPUs HP listed as upgrade options.
Changing the CPU cooler could be a challenge.
A mini graphics card is the way to go.
Very nice. Thanks again, your upgrade thoughts should clear up the muddy cup of coffee I have brewed!
