I have an HP 1 TB External HardDrive that came with HP SimpleSave. Currently I have version 1.0.2.38, the product is no longer working properly and it hangs up the PC. I am assuming that there was a software change following the Windows 10 update. Please let me know how I can correct the issue. I need to use the application for my incremental backups.

Part of the following message is strongly worded.
The message is intended as a means of encouraging you to change your backup strategy.
Ignore anything you don't like, cannot use, do not want to try.
Start...
The SimpleSave Software is located on the external hard drive - although the backup software must interact with the Windows OS, there would be no changes to the software that performs the backups.
That is not helpful, of course - the backup software no longer works.
SimpleSave is proprietary software that created encrypted backups of your data.
There are a few problems:
- The software has not been supported for a number of years (a long time).
- The software (as mentioned) is proprietary - it creates backups only accessible via the backup software.
In other words: The backups, without the software, are not accessible (encrypted).
- The software was never supported on Windows 10.
============================================================
What to do?
No idea really - anything you try might work or might be a waste of time.
Hopefully you are not depending on the SimpleSave backups as the only source of retrieving the data.
One backup of any data is almost as bad as having never made backups.
One backup of the data that uses a proprietary, encrypted, unsupported format is a recipe for loss.
One Idea
You could try attaching the drive to another computer. The software is located on the hard drive - there is no "software installation" required.
OR
You could even try just removing the drive from the system (unplug),
Restart the computer and log in
Connect the drive (map) and see if you can get the software to work
Assuming you can access the drive (after it's mapped) and that you can start the software, you can try running the software to retrieve your data.
What else?
Strong Recommendation:
Even if you can manage to retrieve the data,
If you don't need the data because you still have the original files / folders from which the backups were made,
Stop using SimpleSave.
Use other backup software.
Which one?
Anything that backs up the data without encrypting it and / making the data inaccessible without the backup software.
As a part of your backup plan, consider using File History .
This Windows software is easy to set up and use, the method can be used with an external drive or NAS, the software is reliable and the backed up folders and files are not encrypted.
