Hello

We have the HP Z8 G4 RCTO Base Model Workstation and we having installed a second M.2 SSD to the Dual M.2 adapter the computer came with. Right now the system is only seeing one SSD.

How do we get the adapter to see the second M.2 SSD?

Hi @Chwilliams

I can only suggest you to check in the BIOS what type of RAID you are using, if you are using RAID 0 you will see only one disk,

We are not using a raid.

but I check it in the BIOS I think the RAID is enabled in the BIOS in default mode, and if you put another disk without disabling the RAID you have that issue. Also in the BIOS it is checked whether the selected slot is active.

Does the device need to have power for the other SSD port to work? I don't plan on using it in the HP computer I plan on using it in an aftermarket motherboard.

you indicate that it is an M.2 disk, these do not need a power cable, but there is a BIOS with the option to disable the second M.2 slot, that is what you should check.  If it is not an M.2 then it is a 2.5” SATA disk drive ?.

Basically your saying, if the other slot wasn't enabled in the BIOS of the HP desktop then it cannot be enabled.

HP Recommended

No, you must check in the BIOS if you have the option to enable/disable the second slot M.2, if you don't have that option then your problem is another one.

They no longer have that computer. I plan on using this device in an aftermarket motherboard. I was hoping that is can work in an aftermarket motherboard.

I do not understand, you do not have that computer but ask why the M.2 does not work ?
