Hi everyone,

I just upgraded my HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 11 Home, and added two 8GB RAM sticks (same speed and specs as the original ones), but the system still only shows the original 8GB in both BIOS and Windows.

I tried swapping the slots, reseating the modules, and even booting with just the new sticks no luck. The RAM is brand new and supposedly compatible.

Is there a chance my motherboard has a RAM limit? Or do I need to enable something in BIOS for dual-channel or higher capacity?

Also, while searching for troubleshooting tips, I came across www.edulearnx.com—some helpful guides there if anyone else is dealing with similar upgrade issues.

Thanks!

Hi @Rovmenpaul

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To help you accurately check your laptop’s specifications and compatibility—especially related to upgrades or issues like RAM or display—I’ll need the serial number of your HP laptop.

Please go ahead and share it in a private message, and once I have that, I’ll guide you through the next steps tailored to your exact model. 💻🔍

If you're not sure where to find it:

  • Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and check the System Serial Number.
  • Or look at the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery compartment.

Let me know once you’ve sent it—I’ll be right here to help you dig deeper!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
