Hi:

You should be able to replace the 3.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD, but you will also need some kind of 3.5" to 2.5" adapter so you can properly mount the smaller size SSD where the 3.5" drive goes now.

Tanks,

in fact I tried with a crucial ssd that the crucial ensured compatibility
but when i connect the new ssd on the sata cable and boot the pc
the pc freezes as soon as I try to enter the bios

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know why that would be happening.

It should have been plug and play.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to go into the BIOS and see if disabling secure boot resolves the problem.

You would need to disconnect the drive so you can get into the BIOS.

You should be able to change the settings without a hard drive being installed, but if not, you can reinstall the original drive and do it.

Sometimes Secure boot blocks the installation of any hardware that didn't come with the PC from working.

It is very unusual but it does happen.

I also updated the BIOS to the latest version available
i also tried disabling secure boot
I tried using a Samsung SSD 870 EVO
but I always have the same problem

for the moment I have left the old hard disk and tried to optimize the execution of windows.
I was trying to understand if I was doing something wrong or in reality there is an incompatibility with the hardware of the HP Pavillio 510-p116nl

Thanks

Anytime.

Sorry that disabling secure boot didn't work.

I am stumped as to why two different SATA SSD's that should have worked with no problem, are not working in your PC.

You kept the data cable plugged into the original port on the motherboard that the hard drive was connected to, correct?

If so, then ?????

hi

Hello
it looks like it's nothing new
@Willis62  Maybe this could help

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrade-Pavilion-510-to-Samsung...

"I purchased a new Samsung EVO 860 1 TB hard drive as a replacement and, after hours of trying, I have been unsuccessful in getting the machine to recognize the drive and allow Windows to be installed from a USB thumb drive "

In the meantime, I plugged the Samsung drive into a Dell Optiplex and it was detected right away, no issues. I also purchased a Kingston A400 960 GB SSD and plugged it into the main SATA port...the Pavilion 510 booted right from the USB, no issues and, now with Windows 10 installed on the Kingston A400, boots right up.

my PC is HP Pavilion 510-p116nl

I have already bought two 960GB SSD, one by Crucial an one by Samsung

Crucial sells its SSD as compatible, but is not detected when booting the PC freezes

Maybe I'll leave him with his old hard drive

Thank you for your suggestion

You're very welcome, Lorenzo.

Sorry that neither of us were able to help you get the SSD to work in your PC.

Yes, I don't see that you have any other option but to return the SSD's, and just use the hard drive.

I still don't understand why that happened.
