Pavillion 27-n190 ST
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP desktop won't boot, goes to Blue screen "Choose Keyboard layout". Ultimately able to run HP diagnostics revealing error code "RGED7X-81WA6C-QFFX61-61C103", Hard Drive long DST check : Failed.

My presumption is that this is a catastrophic hard drive failure and I need to replace the hard drive. Is that correct, I can't find any information on decoding the error code. Does the code indicate that anything else needs to be done?

Thank you experts!

You're very welcome.

The recovery media you made should also work fine as long as you buy a replacement hard drive of the same capacity as the one that originally came with your PC.

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Full Test Failure, does mean you have to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

The additional information provided by the code only provides your PC's serial number.

Below is the link to the service guide for your PC, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

After you replace the drive, you can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Or you can order recovery media for your PC from HP at the above link, last item listed.

Excellent information, and even instructions for HD replacement, Thank you!

I made the HP recovery media discs when I bought the computer, so I presume that I should just run this set after I install the new HD.
